Pre-conception Massage
Planning for a baby and trying to conceive can be an emotional and physically challenging time and
stress can often be a contributing factor
in fertility issues as well as other physical challenges. Massage can be an important part of your pre-conception
planning. Massage-based techniques and movement therapies help to break the vicious cycle by encouraging
relaxation. More specifically,
they can help relax tense muscles and tight connective tissues that may have been constricting blood vessels, and thus enable
blood to flow more freely. Some conditions that affect fertility such as Endometriosis can be helped with specific abdominal massage
and the use of heat. If you are trying for a baby and wish to discuss how massage can help please call me for an informal
chat. I have had several clients that conceived while receiving regular massage and I have been able to follow their
treatments all through the pregnancy.
Pregnancy Massage
Once you are pregnant you, your body and
your growing bump will go through huge changes. Massage can support you emotionally and physically during
this time. As your pregnancy progresses you may experience back pain, swelling, sore feet, sleeplessness
and fatigue. Particularly towards the end of your pregnancy you many have aches and pains and anxiety and
massage can help relieve pain and reduce stress levels which is beneficial to you and your baby. My pregnancy massage
takes place laying on your right side to ensure your comfort and safety. Regular massage after the 1st Trimester
can help your body and mind adjust to the new life inside you.
Organic sunflower
oil is used or pregnancy safe essential oil blends to help keep skin supple. Massage is possible during the first trimester
although this is a personal choice and can be discussed with the therapist.
Post-natal
Massage
Massage during the first few weeks of
the postnatal period supports the recovery process. It can help to contract the uterus, tone the abdominal muscles, realign the pelvis, cleanse the body
of waste products and residual anaesthetic and reduce tension caused by carrying and breastfeeding. If
you have had a c-section you may
be experiencing numbness and abdominal discomfort. This can be due to adhesions
and scar tissue forming around the incision site. Massage can help loosen tight connective tissue and reduce
scarring. In the first few weeks after birth your body will be tired and you may experience back pain from breast feeding
and or carry your baby around. Massage at approximately 6 weeks can help loosen the tight muscles before they get to
the stage of causing on-going problems.
